Toilet paper roll flower posy - snowdrops

toilet paper roll snowdrops

Toilet paper rolls and egg cartons are brilliant for making flowers, there are so many flowery possibilities! These little posies are very similar to ones we've made before

using tissue paper for the flowers (you'll find that project here) and paper hearts (which is here).

The difference this time is we're using two toilet paper rolls and going for a more freestyle look, with zigzag foliage.

You will need:
2 toilet paper rolls ( or one kitchen roll tube cut in half)
2 egg cartons
Scissors
Pencil
Ruler
Paint
Craft glue

1. First, paint the two toilet paper rolls green. Paint the inside too - about the top 2/3's or so. If your egg cartons aren't white enough already, paint at least 3 of the egg carton cones white for the flowers as well. Don't cut them out before you do this, it's easier to paint them while they're still in the cartons.

2. When dry, cut long, uneven zigzags around one of the tubes (down as far as about 2cm from the bottom) for leaves and grass. Any snipping goes!

3. Cut the other tube open, flatten it out and use a ruler to draw a line across the card, about 2cm from the bottom. Decide how many flowers you would like and use the ruler to add stems, spaced out as evenly as possible along the card.

4. Cut down the sides of the stems to the pencil line and fold the card flaps back.

5. You can either snip these flaps off...

..or cut more zigzags, to make the posy look a bit fuller. This works really well.

6. Roll this card up again, into its tube shape, and pop it inside the other tube - it will unfurl a little to fit.

7. For the flowers - cut three cones roughly out of the egg cartons (or more if you want), and then neaten, by cutting around the bottom of the cones, just above the bumpy cardboard joins, so you get an even edge.

Draw a pencil line about halfway up one side and continue the line around the rest of the cone. Cut up to the pencil line (at an angle makes this easier, or cut up two adjacent corners and snip off the flap), the cut along the pencil line. Then draw triangles from corner to corner, taking the triangle tip to about 1cm from the top of the cone. (You can also slightly curve the lines, to make them look a bit more petal-like)

Snip out the triangles to leave a bell-shaped flower.

8. Find your stalks, and glue the top part inside the flowers.

Arrange as you like.

And of course they don't have to be snowdrops..
